Our Background & Philosophy
We always knew Capoeira was going to be part of our children's lives because we know from teaching kids how impactful and beneficial the martial art is. However, we were surprised at how young they started picking up language and movement from Capoeira. When our daughter Cabrini was just 1 she already sang the response to one of our songs "La La E." She clapped and moved her whole body along with the music. Our other daughter Kayla sang whole verses in Portuguese at just 3!
We couldn't be more excited to bring this opportunity and awareness to you and your family. In our tot class your child will be exposed to the wonderful benefits Capoeira and Martial Arts have to offer.
Structure: The first 30 minutes of the class is guided participation with toddlers and their parents. This will include music, movement, and language. The last 15 minutes will be unstructured play and discovery time where tots can spend time on what they enjoy the most!
Movement: Stimulation in the form of movement and sensory experiences during the early developing years helps children develop their body awareness and is wonderful for their health. Our class is based around coordinated movement to further develop agility, balance, gross motor skills and speed.
Language Acquisition Skills: Your child will be immersed in the Portuguese language used in Capoeira songs and movement nomenclature. Learning this way allows children to readily learn additional languages since their skills for adopting a language will be acquired.
Music: Science has shown when children learn music, the way they hear and process sounds change in a very good way. This new perception of sound has shown to aid in literacy and improve academic results down the line.
Play: Children need structured and unstructured play to develop healthily. This class provides 30 minutes of structured play that is recommended for healthy development.
Community: Learning to thrive and learn with others is an important social skill. Giving children the opportunity to play and learn with each other develops their social aptitude.
Supportive and Secure Environment: We pride ourselves on the quality of our program. We are intentional about the environment we foster, which is secure, supportive, playful and authentic. We want our values to align with yours so we center our program around health and wellness; self-control and discipline; and helping and supporting others.
